Sodium Dehydroacetate
C8H7NaO4 190.13

2H-Pyran-2,4(3H)-dione,3-acetyl-6-methyl-,monosodium salt [4418-26-2].
»Sodium Dehydroacetate contains not less than 98.0percent and not more than 100.5percent of C8H7NaO4,calculated on the anhydrous basis.
Packaging and storage— Preserve in well-closed containers.
Identification—
A: Dissolve about 1.5g in 10mLof water,add 5mLof 3Nhydrochloric acid,collect the crystals by filtration with suction,wash with 10mLof water,and dry at 80for 4hours:the crystals so obtained melt between 109and 111(see Melting Range or Temperature á741ñ).
B: Asolution (1in 20)responds to the tests for Sodium á191ñ.
Water,Method Iá921ñ: between 8.5%and 10.0%.
Assay— Transfer to a 125-mLconical flask about 500mg of Sodium Dehydroacetate, accurately weighed, dissolve it in 25mLof glacial acetic acid containing p-naphtholbenzein TSwhich has been previously neutralized to a blue color, and titrate with 0.1Nperchloric acid VSto the original blue color. Each mLof 0.1Nperchloric acid is equivalent to 19.01mg of C8H7NaO4.
