»Benzyl Benzoate Lotion contains not less than 26.0percent and not more than 30.0percent (w/w)of C14H12O2.
Benzyl Benzoate 250mL
Triethanolamine 5g
Oleic Acid 20g
Purified Water 750mL
To make about 1000mL
Mix the Triethanolamine with the Oleic Acid,add the Benzyl Benzoate,and mix.Transfer the mixture to a suitable container of about 2000-mLcapacity,add 250mLof Purified Water,and shake the mixture thoroughly.Finally add the remaining Purified Water,and again shake thoroughly.
Packaging and storage— Preserve in tight containers.
pHá791ñ: between 8.5and 9.2.
Assay— Place about 5g of Lotion,accurately weighed,in a conical flask.Add 25mLof alcohol and 2drops of phenolphthalein TS.Cool the solution to about 15,and titrate quickly with 0.1Nsodium hydroxide to a slight pink color.Add 50.0mLof 0.5Nalcoholic potassium hydroxide VS,connect the flask to a reflux condenser,and boil gently for 1hour.Cool,promptly add phenolphthalein TS,and titrate with 0.5Nhydrochloric acid VS.Perform a blank determination (see Residual Titrationsunder Titrimetry á541ñ).Each mLof 0.5Nalcoholic potassium hydroxide is equivalent to 106.1mg of C14H12O2.
