Silver Nitrate
AgNO3 169.87

Nitric acid silver(1+)salt.
Silver(1+)nitrate [7761-88-8].
»Silver Nitrate, powdered and then dried in the dark over silica gel for 4hours,contains not less than 99.8percent and not more than 100.5percent of AgNO3.
Packaging and storage— Preserve in tight,light-resistant containers.
Clarity and color of solution— Asolution of 2g in 20mLof water is clear and colorless.
Identification—
A: Asolution (1in 50)responds to the tests for Silver á191ñ.
B: Mix a solution (1in 10)in a test tube with 1drop of diphenylamine TS,and then carefully superimpose it upon sulfuric acid:a deep blue color appears at the zone of contact.
Copper— To 5mLof a solution (1in 10)add 6Nammonium hydroxide, dropwise, until a precipitate first formed is just dissolved:no blue color is produced.
Assay— Powder about 1g of Silver Nitrate, and dry in the dark over silica gel for 4hours.Weigh accurately about 700mg of this dried salt, dissolve in 50mLof water, add 2mLof nitric acid and 2mLof ferric ammonium sulfate TS,and titrate with 0.1Nammonium thiocyanate VS.Each mLof 0.1Nammonium thiocyanate is equivalent to 16.99mg of AgNO3.
