Identification—

A: Infrared Absorption á197Kñ—Do not dry specimens.

B: Ultraviolet Absorption á197Uñ—

Solution: 60µg per mL.

Medium: methanol.

C: Place about 100mg in a small porcelain dish,add a few drops of sulfuric acid,and stir:a greenish yellow solution is produced,and on warming it becomes red and then turns violet.

Test solution: 20mg per mL,in 0.1Nhydrochloric acid.

Water,Method Iá921ñ: not more than 1.0%.

Limit of morphine— Dissolve 100mg in 10mLof 0.1Nhydrochloric acid.To 1.0mLof this solution add 5.0mLof diluted ferricyanide reagent (prepared by dissolving 0.50g of potassium ferricyanide in 50mLof water,adding 0.50mLof ferric chloride TS,and diluting 5.0mLof the resulting solution to 25.0mL):no blue or dark green color develops within 1minute.

Assay— Dissolve about 1.5g of Noscapine,accurately weighed,in 25mLof glacial acetic acid.Add 25mLof dioxane and 5drops of crystal violet TS,and titrate with 0.1Nperchloric acid VSto a blue endpoint.Perform a blank determination,and make any necessary correction.Each mLof 0.1Nperchloric acid is equivalent to 41.34mg of C22H23NO7.
